Spreading the good word of veganism for the last 3 years, “Vegani in Viaggio” is a blog run by Roberto Rossi where he talks about the vegan culture and travel, outdoor life and health. In particular, recommending travel around the world, especially in Italy and the USA.

I interviewed Roberto about his work as a vegan blogger.

Who is, predominantly, your audience?

We turn to anyone who wants to live experiences around the world, in full respect for nature and animals. Everyone is welcome, even non-vegans, as long as they respect our culture.

How old is your average customer?

49+

How have you been affected by the pandemic, if at all?

Unfortunately, we cancel all vegan tour around the world, now will make the small tours in Italy, specially in Tuscany. In Italy, now, some business are reopen, but with some restrictions

And how do you perceive the vegan market from a local perspective?

In Italy, the vegan market is growing, now it is also affecting non-vegan people and many food-related businesses are being born. Italy has a great food culture. Vegan food production is growing; vegan burger, vegan cheeses and clothing.

Does local media help to spread the word about veganism in Italy?

Italy is a country linked to its culture and its past, so the media do not see veganism well, they speak little and sometimes in a derogatory way, but the percentage of vegans grows and this begins to make a difference in the new generations. The new media take the topic seriously and talk about it openly. We have many activists and many social pages, many associations promote vegan culture and products, trying to change Italian culture, especially for the respect of animals.

Without the media’s help, how do you reach out to your audience?

I am very active on social media and I regularly publish articles in the blog, I have a large audience of followers, many of whom are not vegan. I try to attract many non-vegan people, because I want to raise awareness of society as much as possible. I want to convey the fact that we are “normal” people who love every form of life, we can live in harmony and respect.

As a vegan, is it easy to find good vegan produce?

We have a decent choice of vegan products in supermarkets, I think they are balanced with the sale. Many products of Italian culture have been reworked in a vegan version and find space in supermarkets. Right now vegan cheeses seem to be an interesting business.

And how about you and your personal journey into veganism?

I have been a vegan for about 9 years, I became a vegan after a few months as a vegetarian. I decided to become vegan for the love for animals and for our planet. I no longer wanted to be involved in killing innocent animals. My choice has strengthened over the years, I am convinced that veganism is the only way to live in harmony with nature and in peace with the whole world.

What made you decide to dedicate your business to veganism too?

I decided to open the blog for passion and to spread vegan culture and travel for vegans. I review many vegan activities especially related to tourism. For the past two years I have been organizing vegan trips around the world.

What are you up to now?

In the blog I have written many articles, I recommend restaurants and vegan agri-tourism in Italy and in the rest of the world, many activities are also present in our App for smartphones. If you love Tuscany, you will find many routes to do by car or on foot and many tips for eating and sleeping in vegan structures that also host animals recovered from farms. In Italy it is possible to live vegan with simplicity by following our advice.
