{"id":7724,"date":"2024-01-24T20:24:57","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T20:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kindbunch.com\/community\/0pxnuao4b_4\/"},"modified":"2024-01-24T20:24:57","modified_gmt":"2024-01-24T20:24:57","slug":"the-rarest-ducklings-on-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kindbunch.com\/videohub\/the-rarest-ducklings-on-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"The Rarest Ducklings on earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The hatching of the rarest ducklings on earth.<br \/>\nHi everyone we\u2019re back with a wonderful story about three ducklings of a species that has almost gone extinct.<br \/>\nEver since I was a little boy, ducklings have been my first love.<br \/>\nSo I was thrilled when I got the chance to get some precious rare eggs to incubate and help to protect a once famous duck species from vanishing for good.<br \/>\nThe Anas Curvirostra \u2013 The Hook Bill<br \/>\nIt was capable of producing over 300 eggs a year and had a funny appearance with its curved beak.<br \/>\nOnce there were millions of this ducks and now there are only about 80 good (well formed) egg laying female ducks of the Hook Bill left.<br \/>\nI got in contact with a man that is trying to keep the species alive.<br \/>\nWe discussed that giving this duck some attention and telling its story could maybe help.<br \/>\nI have learned a lot from him and I was also happy to share my 30+ years of experience in incubating and raising ducklings.<\/p>\n<p>The species could use your help.  So in case you\u2019re serious about keeping ducks and you\u2019re interested in the Hook Bill, please send us a mail at SaveHookBill@gmail.com and we will take a look at the possibilities in your country.<\/p>\n<p>Text in this video:<br \/>\nAbout one hundred years ago<br \/>\nDuck eggs were more important than chicken eggs<br \/>\nOne kind of duck in particular was famous for its egg production<br \/>\nAnd its funny appearance\u2026<br \/>\nThe Hook Bill<br \/>\nOnce, there were millions of them<br \/>\nNow, all those ducks are gone<br \/>\nExcept for about 80 egg laying female ducks<br \/>\nTo me that is sad<br \/>\nSo I visited a man much like myself<br \/>\nAnd offered my help in trying to save\u2026<br \/>\nThe species from going extinct<br \/>\nI got four rare and precious eggs to put in my incubator<br \/>\nDuck eggs need special treatment<br \/>\nThey need to breathe and cool down 10 minutes a day<br \/>\nIn three of them\u2026<br \/>\nLife started<br \/>\nExactly as planned, after 28 days I could hear the first one\u2026<br \/>\nThat night<br \/>\nNow IF she is a she, she will be of real importance to her species<br \/>\nShe will be one of the ast 80 (and now +1 \ud83d\ude42 survivors<br \/>\nI was very excited<br \/>\nFor a duckling this rare I had never seen before<br \/>\nUnder a mother duck\u2026<br \/>\nThe egg would be crushed a little, which helps the duckling to hatch<br \/>\nShe was clearly exhausted<br \/>\nYet her sound was strong and relaxed<br \/>\nOutside the incubator, I always keep them warm with my breath<br \/>\nHello little friend<br \/>\nThe next morning the second one hatched<br \/>\nYeeee\u2026 a yellow one<br \/>\nHmmmm, better keep her with me some more<br \/>\nAn hour later it was almost dry<br \/>\nWhilst the first two were going as planned<br \/>\nI thought the third one would be fine as well\u2026<br \/>\nWhen it was hatching, I thought everything was alright<br \/>\nAnd still I thought everything was fine<br \/>\nI even thought it was funny how much she matched my beard<br \/>\n\u2026but then I noticed\u2026<br \/>\nThis I had seen before\u2026<br \/>\nHer balance was not functioning<br \/>\nOh no!<br \/>\nShe would not be able to walk or eat<br \/>\nThis means her chance of survival were close to zero<br \/>\nBut I\u2019ve been taking care of ducklings\u2026for 30 years<br \/>\nIf I can fixate her for one whole night<br \/>\nShe has a small chance her balance recovers<br \/>\nThe next morning\u2026fingers crossed<br \/>\nI\u2019m sorry I just can\u2019t always fix it\u2026<br \/>\nSo far so good<br \/>\nNow\u2026.please, please be able to walk<br \/>\nHere we go little friends<br \/>\nTime for some fresh food<br \/>\nThree weeks later<\/p>\n<p>Used images thanks to E A de Poel and Mr Jan Harteman<\/p>\n<p>Cameras used:<br \/>\nCanon EOSD7<br \/>\nI-Phone 5s<br \/>\nI-Phone 8 plus<br \/>\nSony HDR NX 30<\/p>\n<p>Music through Epidemic Sound.<\/p>\n<p>Songs:<br \/>\nCause \u2013 Peter Sandberg<br \/>\nSunhine Stroll 02 \u2013 H\u00e5kan Eriksson<br \/>\nThe Silver Locket \u2013August Welhelmsson<br \/>\nOur Journey &#8211; August Welhelmsson<br \/>\nTraditional \u2013 Ack Varmeland<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The hatching of the rarest ducklings on earth.
