Pet photography – Why it’s worth every penny
Pet parents love nothing more than to lavish their pets with the best of everything. Our furry family members give us love, undying loyalty, and make us laugh. They never judge us, and will stand with us through thick and thin. They grow up with our human kids, and the memories are forever.
So, if there’s one thing pet parents will want to hold on to is those memories.
I know that for a fact because I’m one of those pet parents. For 14 years, I had my loyal boy, Mondego, next to me every step of the way. My life was a mess for the better part of those 14 years. We moved house a number of times. And building a business from home meant I was a disorganized mess with no schedule for anything. His meals were rarely on time. I’d often wake up late for his morning walk. And my meals often had to be prepped from scratch because I’d forget to do the shopping!
Yet, there he was, each morning. My funny, sweet, loving boy was always right there next to me. Content to lie next to my desk when I had to work. In good and bad days, each night, there was not a care on his mind, as he snored (loudly) all night at the tip of my bed.
Every day, he made me laugh. That boy was such a character.
I was so busy all the time that I never even noticed time pass. I noticed he was slower. We did go to the vet for sudden health issues. But, I was not ready to lose him. Despite all the care of his vet, I lost my sweet, darling companion. He was 14 years old. And I lost him in August 2021.
Every day, I think of him. A moment here and another there. I have 5 photos of him and one video. That’s it. Nothing more. In 14 years, I never stopped to record those memories.
I miss his face. And I wish I had taken the time to save more mementos of him. I have other dogs. And cats. But, as every pet parent knows, each one is uniquely special.
So, this month, I decided to book an hour with a local photographer. She is coming over to our favourite garden in our neighbourhood. I’ll let my dogs run free, and she will take hundreds of photos and videos of all my dogs and cats. They’re memories I want to hold on to.
My sweet Mondego won’t be in that shoot. And that is a regret I will live with for the rest of my life.
Not everyone can afford the services of a professional photographer. I know that. I saved up for this because these memories are important to me. Especially as I grow older. Some will agree. Others won’t. That’s OK.
